Leo Instructions
Leo the Crow is so lucky to spend the week with you and your family! You will bring the bag home on Thursday and return all materials on the following Friday.
Did you know that crows are one of the most intelligent animals on earth? They have extremely large brains in relation to their size and they can do some amazing things with communication, tools and problem solving. Leo the Crow was named after Leonardo da Vinci. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, scientist, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, astronomer, cartographer, botanist, historian and writer. To honor these incredible characteristics Leo has a new focus this year- science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). While spending the week with Leo please choose a STEM activity to do together and write (and draw) about what you did in the journal. On Friday you can teach the class about your experience.
Ideas:
1. Find a website or app that you have never used before that is STEM based. Tell us about it. Rate it. Do you recommend it to other students?
2. Find a STEM lesson/activity online. Complete the activity and write about it. If you build something, bring it in.
3. Find a science experiment in the book provided. Write and draw about what you did and what you learned.
4. Find a STEM activity in the book provided. Write and draw about what you did and what you learned.
5. Use Leo’s building toy to build a structure. Can you make one big enough for you and Leo to get in? What is the tallest structure you can build? Write and draw about something you noticed while building.
6. Please feel free to come up with your own ideas. Most importantly, have fun! This is a chance to demonstrate enthusiasm for inquiry, exploration, and learning at home. If this overwhelms you and you would like some help, please come and ask (or simply have your child build something and write/draw about it :).
